Based in Oregon, George Fox University (GFU) is a Christian university focusing on arts, sciences and professional studies. With roots dating back to 1885, the university was originally founded by the Quakers in response to societal changes. 

George Fox grants bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees, which include: accounting, applied science, art, athletic training, biochemistry, psychology, social work, business, education, counselling, physical therapy and seminary. 

The university also participates in the Richter Scholars programme, which sponsors between 15 and 25 students per year to help facilitate original research at George Fox. 

As George Fox University is a member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, each student signs a lifestyle agreement, attends required chapel/current-event gatherings, and participates in service projects. The university hosts Christian speakers each year through twice-weekly chapel gatherings.

Athletic teams at George Fox's are nicknamed the Bruins. There are some 17 varsity sports – nine for women, eight for men – who compete in the nine-member Northwest Conference at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III level. Sports include: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, and track and field. 

George Fox also offers study-abroad opportunities through the Best Semester programme offered by the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, which offer students a fantastic opportunity to explore different areas of the world. 

Notable alumni include Pat Casey, the head coach for the Oregon State Beavers baseball team, Peggy Y. Fowler, an American businessperson and CEO, and Gina Ochsner, an American author best known for her story collection, The Necessary Grace to Fall, which won the Flannery O'Connor Award in 2001.
